Camp HOPE America – Oregon

Camp HOPE America – Oregon is a partnership between Clackamas Women’s Services and A Safe Place Family Justice Center. We are looking for dedicated volunteers interested in supporting trauma-impacted youth in a camp setting to help as HOPE Leaders, Medical Professionals, Camp Counselors, and Camp Counselor Cabin Leads. Volunteers join us at Camp HOPE to create memorable experiences for participants by being positive role models, celebrating participants’ achievements, and assisting with preparations for daily activities. Camp HOPE aims to break the cycle of family violence by providing a values-based camping and mentoring experience. The trauma-informed approach empowers youth to believe in themselves, in others, and in their dreams.

Requirements to volunteer with Camp HOPE:

  • Complete our volunteer application found here
  • Complete an interview with members of Camp HOPE Support Staff Committee
  • Pass a comprehensive background check
  • Participate in online and in-person Camp HOPE training sessions

HOPE Leader Volunteer

HOPE Leaders join us at camp to be positive role models, create memorable experiences and celebrate participants, and assist with preparations for daily activities. HOPE Leaders help with fun activities like:

  • Engaging with participants during field games, pool time, staff and counselor breaks, and free time
  • Roasting s’mores during campfire time
  • Helping with mealtime

Medical Professional Volunteer

Medical Professionals ensure the safety of everyone onsite by responding to injuries or medical concerns, and create a fun, enthusiastic atmosphere for youth by cheering on and celebrating participants. Other responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with pre-arrival participant health form review
  • Depending on licensure: medication administration, illness and injury management, and documentation
  • Check-in and maintain an inventory of camp infirmary, trauma backpack, and camp counselor first aid kit
  • Support the mental, emotional, and social health needs of participants and camp staff

Camp Counselor

Camp Counselors are positive role models who build relationships with our participants and create safe, supportive spaces for them to have fun! Camp Counselors provide youth with unconditional positive regard and emotional support, all while participating in a variety of relationship-building activities. Camp Counselors are adaptable, dependable, and are expected to attend activities and events throughout the year before and after camp as part of Camp HOPE America – Oregon’s Pathways Program. Pathways Program

The Pathways Program is a year-long mentoring and community-building program that includes events for families. Volunteers assist with setup and clean up, help families feel welcome and engaged, and build relationships.

Volunteering requirements for Pathways Program include:

Group Volunteer Projects

We look forward to the time when we can welcome volunteer groups to help with projects and special events. Projects include assembling mailings, sorting donations, assisting with landscape management, and more.
